El Dorado, KS: The Butler County Historical Society, 1977 The Butler County Historical Society, El Dorado, KS. 1977. Hardcover. First Edition. Signed by the author on the FFFP. Book is tight, square, and unmarked. Book Condition: Near Fine; trace wear to head, tail, and tips. No DJ. Green cloth boards and spine with bright gilt lettering on the spine and front board with oil field in gilt on front cover. 116 pp 4to. This is the story of a town that once flourished but soon died on the fortuned of the oil field. Oil Hill was a company town started in 1915 with an oil boom and soon reached a population of 2500 or more that sat atop the El Dorado Oilfield. Cities Service and its drilling company Empire Oil and Gas built the town and developed the oil field through the true boom of the teens and 20s. Oil Hill declined over the years and in 1958 the last residents were moved out of their company homes and the town ceased to exist. This book deals mostly with the boom days and what the town was like in its heyday. A clean very presentable copy.

Description:
El Dorado, Kansas: Butler County Historical Society, 1981. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/None. Signed on the ffep by the author, Lawrence P. Klintworth; not personalized to anyone. The reason for the condition downgrade is that the Butler County Historical Society chose to place their stamp inside the front cover and on the title page, on page 7, and on the last page. 228 pages. It is my understanding that the author is now deceased. This is the third volume in "The Kingdom of Butler" series. It consists of anecdotes, light-hearted incidents, all of which are stated to be true and hopefully entertaining. Book itself has light gold covers with Black lettering on the spine and front cover. A library number of 978.1K(in white) is at the bottom of the spine. No other usual library markings and pockets are present. Book itself is housed in an archival quality cover. High quality paper. A respectable copy with a hard to find signature. The book appears never read.

The Butler County Historical Society, El Dorado, KS (1st Edition, 1981). Hardcover with mustard-colored boards/black titles; no dust jacket, as issued. Clean and unmarked, binding square and tight.

ABOUT THE BOOK: This, the third volume in "The Kingdom of Butler" series, provides a somewhat different look at the fascinating story told by its two predecessors. Instead of reciting Butler County's history in chronological order with emphasis on events and dates, this volume attempts to be a recorder of light-hearted incidents and of interesting or unusual situations recalled by contributors. Thus, the title--"Tales of The Kingdom of Butler." Anecdotes, carefully researched by the author, fill its pages. All are true and, it is hoped, entertaining. Butler County, Kansas, was settled by a sturdy band of men and women who endured daily hardships in order to survive. At times, however, events or incidents occurred which occasioned fun and laughter. Others brought tears. It is such pioneer potpourri that… Read More
