A reprint edition of the novel by Charles Dickens (1812-1870) which was first published serially beginning in 1840. Per David Perdue, "The Old Curiosity Shop" ". . .tells the story of Nelly Trent and her grandfather as they wander the English countryside, north of London, trying to evade Daniel Quilp, probably Dickens' most evil villain." This undated two-volume set presents the complete novel, and was likely part of a larger set of the works of Charles Dickens. With a few scattered illustrations, including frontis images in both volumes. Includes a 352-page section in Vol. II presenting "Reprinted Pieces" by Mr. Dickens, which were shorter writings originally published in his 'Household Words' magazine. This set possibly published c.1880-1900. --- In full brown cloth-covered boards with titling on paper spine labels; top edges gilt. Textblock edges roughly trimmed with irregular sizing to signatures; some pages unopened. Volumes have no dust jacket. --- A clean, unmarked, tightly-bound set with chafing to cloth at tail of volume I, otherwise lacking serious damages. Spine labels a little faded.
