New York U. S. A.: The John Day Company. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1928. First Edition. Hardcover. Marfree, tite 1stEd bound in faded red cloth, minor chips to faded spine; no names, not marked-in, underscored, clearance or discard. Mails from NYC usually within 12 hours.; 319 pages; Alexander's first memory was of magnificence. There was a great hall, high-ceilinged, paneled in oak, with hunting prints about the panels. There was a fireplace at one end of the room built of yellowed marble with cupids" heads jutting from beneath the mantel which they sustained with ease. But here memory played him a queer trick, for he never could remember whether the cupids were smiling or sober; nor could he remember whether their hair was straight or curly with ringlets like the Christ-child in the painting by Bellini which he afterward came to know was a copy and not a very good one at that. .
