About This Item

Chillicothe, OH: Mountain House Press, 1932. Folio. 71pp. One of 200 copies signed by Hunter. Illustrated with 20 black and white text printed illustrations, one in reddish-orange, eleven in colors; tipped in are 15 specimens of old paper, three examples of raw bark and five photogravures. This history spans the early centuries of papermaking in the East, starting with the Eastern Han Dynasty (A.D. 25-200). Tipped-in specimens date from the fourteenth to the eighteenth century A.D. "The original specimens of Chinese, Japanese, Persian and Tibetan papers have been gathered together during [my travels in] the past ten years, and constitute a veritable museum of old papermaking." A fine copy in original half-linen and patterned paper, with printed paper cover label. Prospectus laid in. Leather booklabel. (Dard Hunter II, pp. 100-102).
