First edition. Red lacquered flexible rigid leather binding, gilt title, Top Edge Gilt, maroon endpapers, 9"x6.5". Light wear at corners and spine top and bottom; faint, demure touches of cover soil. Very Good plus, with contents fine. See scans. A scarce, eye-pleasing binding of this immensely popular James Whitcomb Riley first edition; most copies are in cloth with a pictorial cover. This one is in semi-rigid lacquered red leather boards with gilt titling and top page edges. A brief tour of Riley's pure Americana poetry, now the definition of 'nostalgic'. Detailed color illustrations and decorations on every page by E. Stetson Crawford convey the whimsy and nostalgia. See scans. LG12
