About This Item

New York: Harper & Brothers. Very Good in Very Good- dust jacket. 1927. First Edition. Hardcover. Original owner's name on ffep (dated 1927), toning to endpapers and foxing to foredge of pages. Dustjacket has some foxing and is toned at spine. The dustjacket has shallow chipping along top edge, corners and base of spine, faint stain at spine, tiny scratch at bottom of Ford Madox Ford's name on spine of dustjacket. Very scarce in dustjacket. A thirty-ish newspaperwoman from Dakota is assigned to cover the activities of Crystal Clemente after only one day on the staff of a Chicago newspaper. Through Crystal, a delightfully decadent socialite with an over-imaginative mother, the reporter is introduced to all that is chic and show in Chicago society. Taking place in the 1920s, One Crystal and a Mother is a tongue-in-cheek interpretation of the newly liberated Jazz Age woman. Wonderful review by Ford Madox Ford excerpted on DJ -- "Taylor's book is entirely admirable and absolutely astonishing. I have been reading manuscripts for ages past and I certainly never came across a first, or an early, novel that had one half its brilliance, its insight into life or its power to intrigue a reader." Original owner's name on ffep (dated 1927), toning to endpapers and foxing to foredge of pages. Dustjacket has some foxing and is toned at spine. The dustjacket has shallow chipping along top edge, corners and base of spine, faint stain at spine, tiny scratch at bottom of Ford Madox Ford's name on spine of dustjacket. Very scarce in dustjacket.; Experience the pleasure of reading and appreciating this actual printed item. It has its own physical history that imbues it with a character lacking in ephemeral electronic renderings. .
