About This Item
(Pretoria: National Parks Board of the Union of South Africa, 1958). 206 x 136 mm; pictorial wrappers; pp. 256; photographs; line drawings; advertisements. Wrappers slightly rubbed, and backstrip chipped at tail; earlier owner's name signed on first page; archival tape reinforcing to lower hinge. Good condition. Evocative look at the wildlife and facilities of the Kruger and other national parks, guaranteed to provide a strong dose of nostalgia for those who remember travel in these parts fifty years ago. "Towards evening the air in the Rest Camps is filled with the appetising smell of meat being grilled for the hungry human beings, while during the succeeding hours the night re-echoes with the cries of jackals, the roar of lions and the howling of hyenas - the hungry denizens of the bush." (p. 18) .
