Boards have some edge wear, with pronounced bumping and fraying to corners, while spine ends are crushed and frayed. Rather scratched, rubbed and marked overall. Heavy splits to joints. Heavy bending and creasing to rear board. Gilt is bright.

First edition 1899 with Grant Richards - 'first published by Methuen and Co in 1905' - a 'New and Enlarged Edition'. In quite good green cloth boards, gilt titles to front and back strip. The covers are tight and straight, grubby edges, corners and spine ends bumped and frayed. The end papers feature b/w illustrations by W. Hyde. The front paste down has tiny blue bookseller's sticker for Henry Walker, New and Old Bookseller, Leeds. Dark brown tinted top cut edge; the tail and fore edges are deckled and very tanned. The text block is in good condition, firm and very lightly tanned around most page edges; sound for 1905. No dedications etc. No jacket.
