About This Item

Brooklyn, NY: diwan, 1990. First Edition. Cloth. 77 pp., 6 x 9 inches. Frontispiece portrait of the author by Basil King. One of one hundred numbered copies signed by the author, specially bound in full cloth with blind-embossed cover and spine. Issued without dustjacket. As new.

David Rattray, who died in 1993 at the age of 56, was widely known for his translations from Antonin Artaud, René Crevel, Roger Gilbert-Lecomte, and many others. This collection is the only accessible edition of his own stunning poems. The trade edition consisted of 1000 copies in wrappers, and the projected deluxe edition of twenty-six lettered copies was never completed, leaving this as the only limited edition.

About Passages Bookshop

Passages Bookshop stocks fine, rare, and unusual books and graphic art, with a concentration on modern and contemporary literature and art (particularly poetry and the avant-garde), artist's books, fine printing, and the book arts. The successor to New York City's Bridge Bookshop (late 1980s), Passages opened in Albuquerque in 1994 and relocated to Portland, Oregon, in 1997. In November of 2015 we moved to a new retail shop and gallery centrally located in Portland's east side, two blocks north of the convention center, where we are typically open Thursday through Saturday from 12:00 to 6:00 pm, as well as by appointment or chance.
