Bompiani, Milano., 1962. First edition. Octavo. 370 pages. Text in Italian. In the early 1960s Eco began seriously developing his ideas on the "open" text and on semiotics, writing many essays on these subjects, and in 1962 he published Opera aperta ("The Open Work"). Eco argues that literary texts are "fields of meaning", rather than "strings of meaning", that they are understood as open, internally dynamic and psychologically engaged fields. So put that in your pipe and smoke it.Blindstamp on title-page. Fine in very good dustwrapper darkened at the spine and edges and with some staining to the spine.

Description:
Bompiani, 1962. Hardcover. Very Good. Hardcover with jacket, text in Italian. First edition thus, Bompiani, 1962. Crack to interior of front hinge, but binding is still sound. Blue cloth boards with white titles, some wear at tip of spine. Prior owner's name at top of front end paper, small blindstamp on title page, otherwise text is unmarked. Some tanning to pages. Jacket is also tanned with light shelfwear at edges and several tears that have been taped up on the interior as well as a small chip missing at the rear top of spine, no other loss. Front flap is detached but still present, and for all its flaws jacket still presents well in clear Brodart that will help prevent further damage. If you're still reading this, the two distinct shades of brown in our photo was caused by a reflection on the Brodart, the paper itself is in reality a fairly even light tan.
