About This Item

Antwerp: Antwerp: Jan van der Loe, 1543. Full leather. Very Good. Octavo; 211 (i.e. 197) leaves plus [3]pp (Tabula), lacking title page and with usual misfoliations. In later period-style full unlettered morocco (lightly worn) with four raised spine bands. Occasional unobtrusive light staining and browning, with a couple of decorative woodcut initials. Despite its missing title page, the typography and pagination of the work firmly identify it as Van Der Loe's edition of 1543. Erasmus' guide to letter writing was first published by Froben in 1522. It saw numerous reprints, the current edition being one of the scarcer, with just four institutional locations cited in USTC (USTC 408325).

About Lyppard Books

Lyppard Books was established in Worcester, UK, in 2012, adopting the unusual name from Lyppard Grange, once a farm attached to the monastery of Worcester's ancient cathedral. We maintain a small and select stock of English and Continental antiquarian titles from the dawn of western printing to the 19th century, and aim to offer original, early examples of scarce and sought-after texts.
