This edition, published sixteen years following its first appearance in print, includes the text of a letter written by Chief Justice John Marshall (alluded to in the address on p. 11). Archibald D. Murphey (ca. 1777-1832) was a North Carolina state senator and education reformer who greatly contributed to the state's school system. SABIN 51452.
