About This Item
New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1966. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good/Near fine. The author's first novel and second separate publication, preceded only by an offprint in Spanish translation of two stories published in Guatemala the year before.
There are two versions of the jacket. The prefered one has the title printed too wide on the spine; but without having another copy to compare to, that's hard to identify. A more straightforward method of distinguishing the two versions is to measure the height of the title printed on the jacket spine. This is the "second" state, with the title measuringing 1-3/8 inches. The "first" state measures 1-5/8 in. It is entirely possible that the two jackets were issued simultaneously, but the printing history does not seem to have been definitively determined.
441 pages. First edition (first printing). A very copy in a near fine, second state dust jacket with very minor wear. The spine lettering on the book has darkened; with some shelfwear along the bottom edge. Signed by Coover on the title page.
