Sixth edition, forty-fifth thousand, with additions and corrections. John Murray. London. 1894. Half-title, title, xxi, 432pp. Folding plate. Full contemporary calf, spine in six compartments with gilt tooling and leather label. Double gilt border rules to boards. Kingswood School crest gilt vignette with Wyvern to upper board. Edge gilt tooling, inner edge blind tooling. Marbled endpapers. Marbled edges. A little spotting to free endpapers, a little shelf wear, otherwise a crisp and bright handsome copy. No inscriptions.

Kingswood School, founded by John Wesley lies in the Lansdown estate of William Beckford, at Fonthill.

The sixth edition was the last edition published during Darwin's lifetime, and the first edition in which he used the word "evolution". Darwin made extensive revisions to previous editions, dropped "On" from the title, and added a new chapter VII to address counter arguments, and renumbered subsequent chapters.
