Civil War Veteran, Politician, and Author George Wilbur Peck (1840-1916), who owned a Wisconsin newspaper known as the "Sun", authored a humorous weekly newspaper column which often featured a character of his own invention named Henry "Hennery" Peck who first appeared in 1882. The character was tremendously popular and became known as "Peck's Bad Boy". Peck went on to write a series of books' featuring Hennery Peck who was known for pulling pranks on members of the town, but most especially on his father, for the pure joy of causing trouble and chaos. Peck began writing these stories, which were turned into books as well, in the early 1880s. The ORIGINAL DRAWINGS made by John Tavenor-Perry for use in his Article titled "Damme; a City of the Netherlands" appearing at pages 109-120 in the January 1908 issue of the Reliquary and Illustrated Archaeologist. This separate book contains a Title Page (illustrated by Tavenor-Perry) as well as five of the six illustrations used in the Article (each referred to in the Article as a "Figure", being Figure I: Damme from the Canal; Figure 2: Les Halles, Damme; Figure 3: Portrait of Van Maerlant; Figure 4: An Alderman Bench, Damme; and Figure 5: The City Tongs, Damme. The illustrations are drawn on boards (some of which may contain notes on how to size the various drawings of publication) and are housed together in paper covered boards. The spine and labels thereto show wear and the boards show some soiling/staining as shown in the images provided with this listing. A RARE group of ORIGINAL ILLUSTRATIONS by the renowned architect and writer on architectural history J. TAVENOR-PERRY published in an Article written by him.
