Bruges,: Félix de Pachtere,, 1843.. 85, [iii] pp. Large 4to (22 x 29,5 cm.). Half black cloth library binding with gild lettered red morocco label on spine. Original printed front wrapper bound in (slightly dust soiled), which has a small tear in the inner margin and missing a small piece of the lower outer corner. With a wood engraved title vignette and 7 figures (headings & seals). ¶ Published in a very limited edition, probably not more than 300 copies. A very rare large paper copy with author's autograph dedication to a fellow surgeon. The author was probably one of the most curious figures in Belgium medicine of the period. He was notes as a war surgeon and obstetrician. He wrote several interesting books and paper related to the medical history of Bruges. This work has two chapters. The first is devoted to the Epiciers-Droguistes of the "Kuyd-Halle", which originated in the 13th century. The second part is devoted to the Apothecaries of Brugge. The work is concluded by a list of the members of the "Kruyd-Halle rom ca. 1488 to 1795. Copy from E. Vekema collection. -- (The paper is slightly age-toned, one page loose).
