About This Item

London: Henry Mortlock at the Sign of the Phoenix, 1663. A good plus copy in contemporary calf that is professionally re-spined in matched leather with four raised bands and maroon leather title label. Title page and first two pages with professional silk repair, all other pages crisp and clean with only age toning, new endpapers. 619pp. An elusive edition of this work examining the scriptures of Christianity. An interesting aspect is that it disputes the works of Isaac La Peyrere - a French Millernarian theologian (1596-1676) who argued that there were two creations: that of the gentiles and then of Adam. Stillingfleet's work aims to defend the account in the book of Genesis. Edward Stillingfleet (1635 - 1699), Bishop of Worcester, theologian and scholar. A good useable copy, in attractive contemporary binding. . First Edition. Hardback. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" Tall.
