Portland, OR.: The Pacific Northwest Orpheum Circuit.. 1912.. Theatre program for the touring company of "Madame Butterfly," the one act play adapted from John Luther Long's short story by director David Belasco. Eight "acts" are featured in the program, with "Madame Butterfly" the main attraction. The play starred Clara Blandick, whose career began on the stage and eventually led her to Hollywood, where she appeared in scores of films, usually in supporting roles. Her most famous film role likely was "Auntie Em" in "The Wizard of Oz." She committed suicide at age 82 in 1962, wracked with unrelenting arthritic pain for where there existed no satisfactory treatment. Also of interest in the program, under the heading "Next Week" (a listing of coming attractions) is the announcement of the upcoming appearance of "Will Rogers, Expert Lariat
Thrower." An unusual program, more than a century old, in very good clean condition. Uncommon. .
