Here we have one of the older books in my collection. A book on calculating quickly. Covers are paper over boards, with fabric over the spine. The paper is worn in places, while the fabric hasn't failed yet, but it is clearly thinking about it. Owner's names on the front endpapers, but the pages are clean, tight and unmarked. A somewhat rare book.

Entirely New Edition per the title page published in 1871. Small size book: 4 1/2 inches wide 6 13/16 inches high and 3/4 inches thick. Total pages 194. Spine is worn and shows a lighter brown color there. Wear and small tears at top and bottom of spine. Calculation in pencil to 1st free end page. Binding starting to come loose. The front and back pastedowns and adjacent pages are browned. At one time a sheet of paper must have been placed at the title page which caused the title page to brown there and has a brown edge(see picture). No writing thru rest of book. some page creasing at upper corners. Interesting explanations of calculations that were relevant at that time such as Measurement of Wood, Hay, Corn on the Cob, and rules for determining the weight of live cattle.
