Chip to lower left and right corners and a few 1/4 inch archivally mended edge tears, all outside the image area; soiling in right and lower right margin, a couple of areas of light red coloration in lower margin (possibly as printed). A chromolithograph of the highest quality, capturing the subtle coloration of the fish portrayed, produced for William Harris' publication "The Fishes Of North America" which was published in 1898 (Bennett, American Nineteenth Century Color Plate Books p.51). Harris had his artist, J.L. Petrie, paint from recently caught fish, and the particulars are noted in the lower left margin: "Specimen (weight 1 lb.) caught and painted at the Grand Descharge, Province of Quebec, Can." with Harris' facsimile signature in lower left margin. .
