About This Item

Indianapolis, IN, U.S.A.: Bobbs-Merrill, 1963. 158 pages, b/w illustrations. Book has few faint smudges/specks to boards, name on front endpaper. Dustjacket is bright, few small faint smudges, small tears. Stanley is an imaginary character who turns up from time to time in the pages of The Talk of the Town section of "The New Yorker." Our Man Stanley writes largely of that Eighth Wonder of the World, New York City, and in it we are entertained by visits to the Coney Island Aquarium; exhibits of sports, Russian wares, foreign automobiles at the Coliseum, a six-day bike race in Madison Square Garden; another - a harrowing - trip to Long Island with three children amid Sunday afternoon traffic; the World Series; the opening of the Metropolitan Opera; a too-cold Christmas sing near Gracie Mansion, the Mayor's home; the Stock Exchange and Wall Street; to lunches - one for Khrushchev, one for Elizabeth and Philip of England; an unforgettable sea voyage to the Monmouth race track; and a carriage ride through the city's great Central Park. . Hard Cover. Very Good/Good. Used.
