A tight, clean, sound copy in red cloth covered boards with white lettering on the spine with very minor overall shelf wear plus some very light soiling of the outside paper edges plus some very light fading on the spine plus the usual library label on the spine that wraps around onto the front and the back plus the usual library stamps and marks on the top outside paper edges, front endpaper, title page, copyright page, first page of the foreword, and last page plus the front paper has been removed as part of the library's withdrawal process. The book provides an introduction on the basic principles of poetry with a glossary. It then presents, in chronological order, the major English poets between 1660 and 1890. Each poet is introduced with a brief biography. The major poems for each poet are also outlined, in the order of composition. Each outline provides the place and date of composition, place, and date of first publication, circumstances of composition, verse form, structure, summary of contents, sources, immediate reception, aspects of permanent interest and value, and selected bibliography. 182p..
