About This Item

Amsterdam: C. G. Van Der Post, 1853. First Separate Edition. Wraps. Very Good. First Separate Edition. [1]-24 pages. Original brown wrappers printed in black. Uncut and unopened. 4to. 9 x 11.25 inches. Front wrapper darkened overall and at the edges. Text in Dutch. Loosely translated, the title is: "On the theory of magnetic lines of force of Faraday. Published by the Royal Academy of Sciences in Amsterdam" Wraps. No doubt in part a commentary on Faraday's "On the Physical Character of the Lines of Magnetic Force" published in the previous year. We find Coulomb, Ohm, and Ampere mentioned in the text as well, We've found little about Van Rees who was professor of mathematics and experimental philosophy at the University of Utrecht between 1831 and 1867. (Univ of Groningen website). An early reaction to news of Faraday's theory which clearly spread quickly. It is unclear if this was an offprint or originally issued in this format.
