1869 1ed Life of Kit Carson American Expeditions INDIANS Hunting John C Fremont

Kit Carson was one of the most famous American West frontiersmen, known for being an Indian Guide and Agent of the United States to work with native tribes. Carson's life was written about extensively throughout the 19th-century, including Charles Burdett's account. Burdett portrays Carson as a classic American folk hero, describing his expeditions westward, his trade ventures, learning to fight from Native American Indians, and his settling in Indian cultures. Other notable topics include Carson's buffalo and bear hunting excursions, as well as accounts of his involvement in John C. Fremont's expeditions.

1904 Confederate Civil War Reminiscences General John B Gordon Union Memorial

"Gordon had a way of putting things to the men that was irresistible, and he showed the men, at all times, that he shrank from nothing in battle on account of himself." –Lt. Gen. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson

General Robert E. Lee considered his compatriot, John Brown Gordon to be one of his most reliable and trustworthy generals during the US Civil War. Himself a general in the Confederate States Army, Gordon would endure not one, but two severe illnesses alongside eight significant wounds on the battlefield.

A rare "memorial edition" of Gen. John B. Gordon's famous autobiography, 'Reminiscences of the Civil War.' Held in high regard by many for its highly entertaining contents, this biographical work offers fascinating insight from a prominent Confederate military leader during one of the darkest times in US history.

Description:
1664 1ed Oliver Cromwell Parliament Robert Pugh Attack on George Bate Elenchus

George Bate, sometimes known as Bates, was a 17th-century personal physician to Oliver Cromwell. Unfortunately, much controversy and speculation circles Bate and the untimely death of Cromwell. The controversy arises because of Bate's defense of the King's disagreements with the English Parliament, making many historians unsure who Bate sided with politically. Bate published a book entitled 'Elenchus Motuum' defending the King but it also included a thorough description of the execution of Charles I.

Robert Pugh, a Jesuit royalist, published a critical attack on 'Elenchus' – a work discussing many of Bate's medical practices, English politics, and events that would eventually lead to the Popish Plot.

1868 FASHION English Woman Domestic Magazine Illustrated Dresses Beeton Recipes
In mid-19th-century England, there was a growing demand for literature on home-making and female interests. Numerous magazines and periodicals were published to try to meet this demand. One such work was Sam Beeton's "Englishwoman's Domestic Magazine" – a magazine that, according to Diamond,
"targeted middle-class women and was an immediate commercial success, with its clever mix of French fashion plates, dressmaking paper patterns, designs for fancy-work, excellent recipes (by Mrs Beeton), and serialized novels."
This tome contains 23 full-page engravings illustrating dresses and high fashion.

1880 Spiritualism 1ed Immortality OCCULT Ghosts Evil Spirits Medium Heaven Hell
"Immortality, and Our Employments Hereafter," by James Martin Peebles offers an interesting, 19th-century exploration into the mysteries of the afterlife. Drawing from his backgrounds as a physician and an active member of Psychic/Spiritualist communities, Peebles addresses pressing questions that have long occupied the human mind: What awaits us after death? Will we reunite with our loved ones? How do spirits occupy their time in the hereafter? The book claims to grant a platform for various spirits to share their accounts and experiences from different realms. It delves into the nature of life, death, and the eternal soul, examining the intricacies of existence both on Earth and in the spiritual world. Peebles presents these narratives, not just as testimonies, but also as a way to provide clarity and hope for readers yearning for insights about the great beyond. Amidst the accounts, Peebles also touches upon the eternal… Read More
