Petrus Gyllius was a French natural scientist from the 16th-century whose works ranged from topographical to studying about fish of the Mediterranean Sea. According to Blackmer, Gyllius works are
"among the earliest works to describe Constantinople and the Thracian Bosphorus. They provided authentic and reliable sources of information for early travelers."
