New York: Horace Liveright, 1929. Tall 8vo. 310 pp. Title in red & black. Colour frontisp., 11 colour plates. Black cloth, elaborately gilt decorated spine, orange & red morocco spine label, w/ d.j. (minor chipping head of spine, dustsoiling), F/VG copy, preserved in open-backed slipcase, printed labels on cover & spine (some edgewear, rubbing), numbered on limitation page. First Majeska edition, No. 55 of 1250 copies, with beautiful illustrations. This novel published originally in 1920 just before the author’s death, surrounds the adventures of the hero who has fallen in love with an opera soprano in New York. This edition contains the beautiful illustrations of Madame Yna Majeska, noted costume designer for the Ziegfeld follies, and Cecil B. DeMille, who also illustrated in Vanity Fair.
