Frontis. engraving of Turner, dedication to His Royal Highness James Duke of Albany and York, His Majesties only Brother; Dedication to the Generous Reader, 4pp, Contents & Errata 8pp, 372pp. Original 17th century leather/boards with two-tone design laid in on both boards, re-backed with Turner's Military Essayes on red leather panel, 6 raised bands outlined in gilt & leather design & 1683 stamped on gilt. Turner fought in the Thirty Years' War for the Swedish Empire (1632-1633) and Brunswick-Luneburg (1633-1639). In the ECW he fought for the Scottish Covenanters (1640-1650) & Scottish Royalists (1650-1651). Thereafter he fought for Denmark (1657) in the Dano-Swedish War (part of the Second Northern War of 1655-1660) and was part of the Scottish Standing Army (1660-1684) which was established in 1660. Contents include 10 chapters on the Ancient Grecian Art of War, 25 chapters on the Roman Art of War, and 29 Chapters on the Modern Art of War. A very nice example of the scarce first edition, in very good condition..

The author's non-linear poem about the billeting of soldiers in civilian homes in wartime. Copy 89 of a limited edition of 250. Folded into the form of a letter, the work was letterpress printed in wraps of handmade "combat paper" made from military uniforms. The author says: "Some time ago-maybe a year, maybe two?
