New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1943. Stated First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good+/Very Good. Stated First Edition in original unclipped dust jacket. Turquoise cloth boards with blue decoration on cover, blue lettering and decoration on spine. No fraying or wear. Slightest hint of fading to upper and lower board edges. Binding is tight and square, hinges are sound - no cracking. Pages and edges are clean, with small previous owner name neatly penned at top edge of front free endpaper. Foreword by the author. Illustrated with drawings and photographs, fold-out map in perfect condition. 398 pages + 23 page index. Dust jacket is not price clipped (4.50 on front inside flap), has one 3" crooked tear at spine fold, a few very tiny edge chips, slight age-toning. Enclosed in new archival quality removable mylar cover.
