Folio up to 15" tall. Xlii., with 50 full page black and white plates. Orange cloth boards elaborately decorated in gilt and black to front and spine; all edges gilt. Boards have moderate soiling and rubbing to edges with exposed corners; binding is firm. Endpapers have cuts with tape repairs; tiny closed tear to title page. Contents have an occasional light thumb mark and very light edge toning; closed tear to tail edge of plate 32; closed tear to top edge of pages 175, 212; otherwise contents are clean and unmarked.

This volume contains reproductions of all 50 plates drawn by Doré and engraved in his studios for the original edition of Paradise Lost published by Cassell 1866. Paul Gustave Louis Christophe Doré (1832-1833) was a French artist, printmaker, illustrator, comics artist, caricaturist, and sculptor who worked primarily with wood-engraving. His illustrations for Milton's epic poem are iconic.
