Illustrated throughout with fifty engraved plates (including the frontispiece and three folding plans), and hundreds of engravings in the text. Including chapters on the Parc Monceau, the Square de Montrouge, the market gardens and more. In a blue cloth binding. Externally, sound, with just some slight discolouration, and wear to the extremities. Rear joint has splitting to the cloth. Internally, firmly bound. New endpapers have been laid down, with tape reinforcements to hinges. Pages are bright, with just a few instances of foxing. Good

Robinson, a landscape gardener and horticultural journalist, was for a time on the staff of the Royal Botanic Garden in Regent's Park, and was elected as a fellow of the Linnean Society in 1866, one of his sponsors being Charles Darwin. The present work is based on observations made during his visit to France in 1867 to report on the horticultural parts of the Exhibition in Paris for the Times and several other periodicals.
