Los Angeles: Dawson's Book Store, 1983. First edition. Profusely illustrated biography and bibliography of Landacre in this Los Angeles Miscellany Number 15 issue. INSCRIBED BY LEHMAN, "For Walt Wheelock,/ Good friend, history buff,/ and Landacre devotee./ Tony Lehman/ Dawson's Book Shop/ August 19 1983." Lists wood-cut engravings done for Jeffers ("First Book-Colophon" and "Visits to Ireland") and other authors in the Mears' collection. Prints letter from Jeffers declining request to write foreword for Landacre's "California Hills and Other Wood-engravings." This special copy is SIGNED BY THE PRINTER, Richard J. Hoffman, THE BINDER, Bela Blau, AND BY THE PUBLISHER, Glen Dawson. Also signed by a member of the Serisawa family on the photo of Landacre captioned "At work on the Washington press," page 102. Sueo and Mary Serisawa were very close friends of Paul and Margaret Landacre. Interned in 1941 during WWII in a relocation camp for American Japanese, they remained close to the Landacre's. Sueo was a well-known artist and taught Landacre how to paint. The Serisawa daughter was named Margaret, for Margaret Landacre. In response to the inquiry from Allen Mears, which said "My copy of your 1983 book is signed on the page 102 photo of Landacre by a member of the Serisawa family. Were all copies of the edition so signed?" Michael Dawson wrote on November 14, 2000, "There was (sic) no special signatures with every volume of this book. Your copy was most likely signed by Natsu Serisawa who worked for Dawson's at that time and was married to photographer and art dealer Ik Serisawa." Mears also asked ". . . please tell me the press run numbers on the book," to which Michael Dawson replied "We do not have an exact record of how many copies were printed but the number was greater than 300 and less than 500. Best, Michael Dawson." This is a beautiful book with striking colored half tones as chapter heads. Crisp copy. Very fine.
