Limited edition, of which this is number 3 of 1,000. Includes original presentation box, still in good condition, but with parts of the cardboard missing, unnoticeable unless opened, and with other stains and wear, and titling slightly rubbed off (see photo). Jacket in very good condition, with minor marks and wear. Boards in fine condition, gilt titling on spine and front board bright and clean. Prior owner's signature and small inscription on front free endpaper. Gilt to top edge of page block in bright, fine condition, small dent. Minor foxing to page block edges, endpapers, and jacket. Hong Kong, China: Jac Press, 1981 413 pages. The book has a little very pale foxing on the first and last pages and the dust jacket, but is otherwise in excellent condition. It is enclosed in a cardboard slip cover., which shows a lot of wear, including tape stains and has several surface tears. A piece of the slip cover has torn off. First American edition, of this lavishly illustrated work featuring the photo illustrations drawn from Hurley’s 1921 silent film documentary, Pearls and Savages. He further edited, and enhanced the film for re-release in October, 1923, with the follow-up film title “With the headhunters in Papua” released in October, 1923. The documentary expedition surrounded photographing, and recording the work of Anglican missionaries working amongst the peoples of Papua, New Guinea, and the Torres Strait.
