Belgium: Louis Van Houtte, 1865. Beautiful original double page color lithograph with descriptive page of text published in van Houtte's and Charles Lemaire's "Flore des Serres et des Jardins de l'Europe" in Brussels. The journal was comprised of 23 volumes published between 1845-1883. van Houtte [1810-1876] made a name for himself as a horticulturist and his 'Establishment Louis van Houtte' was the largest nursery of its time on the continent; by the 1870's it covered 14 hectares and included 50 greenhouses. Double page 9.75 x 12.75", luscious gold, green and red colors, and text, original reinforced fold, very clean and crisp.
