Light bumping to spine ends and rubbing to corners. Illustrated dust jacket, discolouration to edges, bumping to spine tail and chip to spine head, bumping and creasing to edges. Stub after copyright page before epigraph, possible missing page. Chip to epigraph page at inner margin, not affecting text. Offsetting to endpapers. Ink ownership inscription to FFEP and pencil annotation to pastedown. Winner of The Atlantic Monthly Prize for the most interesting and distinctive novel submitted. A story of Legation life in China.
