Pepys' Diary was written in shorthand and occasionally, when further privacy was required, a melange of Spanish, French and Italian and thus not meant for immediate public consumption. Accordingly it provides an unfettered insight into his private life and the social mores of the 17th century. Pepys was also assiduous chronicler of his age, recording the restoration of Charles II, The Anglo-Dutch War, the Plague of 1665 and the Great Fire of London. Bound in decorative blue cloth with gilt decoration. With an introduction by Latham and colour images. Images from Pepys' actual diary to endpapers. Complete with slipcase. Light shelfwear to slipcase. A couple of small marks to page edges but otherwise volume are crisp and pristine. Very Good+
