About This Item

Chicago: The University of Chicago Press, 1991. Hardcover. Small 4to. Dark yellow cloth spine with brown lettering and light yellow paper over boards, pictorial dust jacket. xiv, 279pp. Frontispiece, illustrations. Near fine/near fine. Faint spotting to page edges. A tight, quite attractive first edition. Amusingly, Tom Hollatz -- Chicago crime reporter, John Dillinger scholar and author of "Gangster Holidays: The Lore and Legends of the Bad Guys" (1987) -- pens huge and bold in black fineline on front flyleaf "Tom Hollatz / will haunt / you!" to encourage return from those to whom he loaned the book.
