London.: Constable & Co. Ltd.. 1962.. Maps, black and white photographic plates, xi + 256pp, index, 22 x 14.3cm. Black and white portrait of Lord Casey laid down front free endpaper. Lord Casey's compliments slip inscribed in ink "With best wishes/Dick" the name and address of M.P. Hugh Roberton dated 1/8/1962 laid down front pastedown. Rear endpapers browned from loosely inserted clipping, boards little bumped, overall a good copy. Richard Casey's memoirs, detailing his time as Australian Minister to the US, the Churchill War Cabinet's Minister of State in the Middle East during the Second World War, and as the penultimate Governor of Bengal. Notably includes photographs of Casey as well as several of his contemporaries, including Claude Auchinleck, Archibald Percival Wavell, Alan Brooke, Winston Churchill, Leslie Moorshead, Cordell Hull, and Gandhi.
From the library of Hugh Stevenson Roberton, Country Party MP for Riverina from 1949-1965, Minister for Social Services in the Menzies Government from 1956-1965, and Australian Ambassador to Ireland from 1965-1967. This copy was given to Roberton by Casey in 1962.
An Irish Press clipping loosely inserted in the rear discusses the purchase of a residence for Roberton by the Australian Government in his capacity as ambassador to Ireland for £30,000. The property remains the official residence of the Australian Ambassador to Ireland today. .
