New York: Charles L. Webster (Jenkins & McCowan), 1888. Illustrated by Frontis (2), plates (15) and maps (27) some fold-out, (collated). First edition. 2 volumes. Originally period brown calf over burgundy pebble leather rebound in-house by KTB in J. Hewit acid free black calf with five raised bands on blue marbled boards and endpapers, retaining gilt topboard emblems. Original gilt spine design of Sheridan waving hat on horseback cut in two and placed on spines of each volume to denote volume, leather spine titles printed gilt. 8vo. pp. 486. Index. Very Good. Internally very good with several archival paper repairs, minor chipping, toning and some old edge dampstain. Marbled edges have faded to a consistent brown 'speckled' edge. Unusual one-of-a-kind binding. [We restore and rebind books and sets].

Illustrated by Tissue Frontis (Comparative Height of Mountains; Length of Rivers Lakes and Canals, Smith folding map 19.75 x 25 inches (50x63.5cm). First edition. Rebound by in-house by KTB in full hand-dyed Brown Hewit acid free (AF) calf, burgundy stamped leather spine title, oak decoration, leather headband, AF Strathmore Petal Infusion endpapers. 8vo. pp. 473, [7] blank. Appendix. Very Good. Map tears archivally repaired with Japanese tissue and filmplast, in a custom AF cartridge paper rear envelope. Beautiful tight copy with foxing starting.
