About This Item
1900. Hardcover. Very good overall. Seemingly a record of a horse and buggy tour through central New York and on to Vermont. There are nice architectural views of family homes, and others that interested the travelers. The 3rd & 4th photos are of the obelisk of David Williams, Revolutionary War hero, one of Major Andre's captors, along with John Paulding and Isaac VanWart. The obelisk is in the Old Stone Fort Cemetery. The early photos family homes, the Catskill Mountain House, street scenes, countryside, farmland, a waterfall, hedgerows, and a Civil War statue (near Schoharie?), "A.C Blackburn, Pharmacist," with an sign advertising sporting goods and "Kodak", the proprietor at the door. Next are photos of Bennington County Court House and church next door. some of the homes photographed are very grand.
Gilson Adjustable Album patented 1897. Oblong, 8 1/2 x 6". 36 silver gelatin photographs approximately 5 1/4 x 3 3/4" , mounted on 18 card leaves. tiny bit of foxing, card a little warped. Original black cloth boards, tied with gilt "Photographs" on front board.
A pleasant vernacular photo album.
