Glasgow, 1999. Cloth bound in fine condition.. Limited edition of 300 copies signed, dated and numbered by Adam McLean; Additionally inscribed by McLean to a friend; Hermetic Studies No. 4; Hand-Bound in simulated brown leather with gilt spine title; 12' X 6.5"; 2 page Introduction with 15 full-page color illustrations. This is a large format edition of the Mutus Liber using the engravings from the first edition 1677 of La Rochelle. It is not a reproduction of any other manuscript. The colouring scheme is based entirely McLean's own, but he drew on his extensive study of coloured alchemical manuscripts. There is a short introduction, but this book really consists only of the full page coloured pictures. It complements the Magnum Opus volume A commentary on the Mutus Liber also by Adam McLean.

Description:
1854 1ed Spirit Manifestations Occult Psychology Mesmerism Druids Mediums DodsJohn Bovee Dods was a 19th-century philosopher known for his studies and beliefs in spiritualism and mesmerism. One of his best works was 'Spirit Manifestations Examined and Explained' – a series of his lectures on his experiences in the supernatural and spiritual world. Dods claims that the phenomena of the spirit world, while genuine and real, is a result of 'electrical psychology' (a term related to animal magnetism coined by Dods himself).
More specifically in these lectures, Dods covers:
·
Involuntary movements and instincts in humans
·
Communications of mediums
·
Authenticity of the Bible, concerning spiritualism
·
Habits and pagan acts by ancient tribes – Druids, Romans, Greeks, etc.

binding is very clean- just a touch of edgewear/shelfwear. They used a two tone quarter green cloth over gray cloth and the green portion still is glossy. Internals very clean ( not even any pricing marks in pencil) though there is a paper clip indentation at the lower edge affecting the title, onwards for 20 pages. Unclipped wrapper has only some rubbing but I detect no tears, creases or chips. The paper is wonderful; it strikes me as feeling and looking like "linen" (not your business/office grade) but I am by no means an expert on paper. This US Stackpole Edition omits 8 plates which are in the UK Allen & Unwin volume. Well-preserved, excellent copy.Inv. # 63672 NOAB* bds 9/2023
