Currie & Bowman Binders; frontispiece engraving of Ellen Eskdale, painted by H. Richter, engraved by H. Cook. Professionally rebound: a linen reback with original spine. VERY GOOD+ with minor scattered soiling. Sarah Stickney, later Ellis (1799-1872) is best known for her popular advice to women and her writings: Women of England (1838), the Daughters of England (1842), The Mothers of England (1843) and The Wives of England (1843.) Pictures of Private Life, an earlier title, prior to her marriage to William Ellis in 1837, includes the introductory chapter "An Apology for Fiction.
