WITH THE VERY SCARCE PUBLISHER'S WRAP-AROUND BAND with the quote from Dorothy B. Hughes (NY Herald Tribune): "After reading it, it is not regret but resentment, which burns for have missed her first, Banking on Death. The most intriguing mystery-writing woman in our country, in at least a decade". A Place for Murder was the Author's second thriller and was enthusiastically received including by the great Francis Iles: "Compared with most of her compatriot sisters in crime Emma Lathen has so many virtues that it is hard to list them all. She is not pretentious, portentous or sentimental; so far from being solemn she has a sly wit, productive of many quiet chuckles; she can draw real people, not blown-up exaggerated caricatures; her plot and her situations are credible; she doesn't pin everything on one off those improbable, feudal families to whom the whole family kow-tows; she is, in fact, very good value indeed. Read 'A Place for Murder' and judge for yourself". Photographs/scans available upon request.
