Philadelphia: J B Lippincott & Co, 1861 A fair copy of this work, first published in 1860. In original green decorative cloth binding with recessed panels to both boards enclosing a gilt picture of a plant, and heavy gilt decoration to the rest of the boards and the spine; with bevelled edges to boards. Aeg. The author illustrated the work with 6 colour plates printed by T Sinclair in Philadelphia and with a number of black and white illustrations. The binding is bright but the spine is detaching at the front hinge and there is wear to corners and top and bottom of the spine and some edges. There are a couple of marks.The original endpapers are present and are clean bar a small ex libris Cohen stamp to the front pastedown. Some pages have brown spotting and there is occasional browning. The colour plates have tissue guards and are generally clean.
