About This Item

London: Constable and Company, 1928. This 1928 printing by the original London publisher of four George Bernard Shaw plays features Shaw's original Preface that provide both history and background to each theatrical piece. Although the first two plays, "Arms and the Man" and "Candida," are among Shaw's most famous and are found in our modern repertory, the other two are less commonly performed. "The Man of Destiny" concerns an interlude in the life of Napoleon, when he meets a mysterious lady near an inn in Lombardy. "You Never Can Tell" is a comedy concerning a young dentist and his relationship to a new patient, her two siblings, and their authoress mother. This 76-year-old book is in very good, clean condition. It has green cloth covers and gilt lettering on the spine. The interior binding is tight and secure, and the pages are clean throughout. The free front end paper is missing. The book is from my personal collection and has my signature and embossment, as well as an attractive bookplate. The book measures roughly 5 ¼ by 7 ¼ inches and includes 320 pages, plus ads in the rear for other Shaw works. See photo.. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Play Collection.
