"Edmund Waller (1606-1687) was deeply involved in the political life of this times. Although a moderate supporter of reform in 1640, in 1643 he was arrested by parliament for plotting with the king. He went into exile in 1645...and played no part in the publication of the first two editions of that year." From the library of Charles Bell, writer, poet, and Rhodes scholar. Bell's Greenville, Mississippi childhood included classmates Walker Percy and Shelby Foote. His first novel, The Married Land, Houghton Mifflin, 1962, was praised by William Carlos Williams. Bell's work includes three volumes of poetry, two novels, and an audio-visual opus, "Symbolic History.
