New Directions, 1942. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Hardcover, full teal paper-covered boards in matching dust jacket, 9" x 6", 25 pp., plus colophon and series list. Chip to top rear corner of jacket, which also shows moderate toning at spine and edges. Ownership inscription of Wesley Wehr, May 1950. Wehr was a noted paleontologist and artist in the Northwest School of art. In 1950, however, he was studying composition at the University of Washington, and although he showed an aptitude for music at an early age, he only published one composition. There are musical notations in pencil to about half of the free rear endpaper, one ink scribble at dedication page, else a very nice copy of this important early work by John Berryman.

From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.
