New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1904. First Edition. Stated on copyright page "Published, September, 1904" and 1904 printed on title page. GOOD+. A clean, unmarked copy complete with 8 tissue protected color plates plus a color illustrated title page. Bound in black cloth hardcover with illustrated color pastedown on front, gilt titled spine. Printed endpapers with wonderful lobster art - the endpapers are clean and complete, left bottom corner of front endpaper creased. Pages also clean, top edge gilt but moderately dulled. There are closed tears to two text leaves (page11/12 almost torn totally from bottom to near top) and one tissue protector. Tears not taped and could be neatly repaired. Illustrated title page is toned and the last two color plates and their tissue protectors are toned along the top. . Binding is intact but tender; there is a split starting before page 63 and a neat glue repair to front hinge. Cover is clean, moderately shelf rubbed and with a crease to front board about 2" from bottom corner, causing a crease to pastedown and front endpaper. 7 x 9-1/2". x +199 text pages plus plates. First Printing. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. Illus. by Parrish, Maxfield.
