Two small patches of browning affecting the top outer corner of ten leaves, otherwise a very good copy in fine nineteenth century binding by Thomson of Exeter, with binders ticket on front paste down. Full tan calf, raised bands, compartments fully gilt. Red title label, gilt. Boards with double blind ruled and one gilt ruled borders. Marbled endpapers. School prize plate on front paste down shows that this copy was given as a prize in January 1842. Previous owners name(dated 1881) and ink name stamp on blank endpapers. Front hinge neatly repaired. Some minor rubbing to edges but generally a very good copy in an attractive nineteenth century binding.:

Publishers 1st issue binding of grey cloth, with light green lettering and design of Marble arch, blocked in blue, green and mustard, to the front panel. The spine is lettered in gilt within a green ruled border. Top edge gilt. A little minor rubbing to the extremities and the front inner hinge is cracked but firm. Overall a better than very good copy of this uncommon novel. (Glover and Greene; Victorian Detective Fiction. No. 303). Not in Wolff.

A fine clean set in contemporary leather bindings of half plum morocco. Spines with raised bands, each with diagonal gilt bands. Compartments double ruled and lettered in gilt. Marbled paper on the boards. Marbled endpapers. Previous owners neat bookplate on the front paste down endpapers of each volume. All edges marbled. Some rubbing to the boards and all four spines showing uniform fading but still an attractive little set.

Longmans, Green, and Co. London and Bombay. 1902. FIRST EDITION. Colonial Issue. 8vo. (7.4 x 5.3 inches). Illustrated with sixteen mono plates by Sidney Paget. Tisue guard to the frontispiece. A few of the plates are bound in different places than listed on the contents page but all are present. 4 pages of publishers adverts for the colonial library at the rear of the book. The text and illustrations are fine, clean and bright throughout and look unread. Publishers decorative green cloth which has dark blue illustration to the front board and spine. Gilt lettering to the spine. Decorative light blue and white floral endpapers with ship and swan designs. There are a couple of small closed tears to the spine and the cloth is a bit rubbed and bumped and has a few small marks but is generally in very good condition with the gilt on the spine still quite bright. Original buckram with gilt lettering to the spine. Attractive floral designs by Charles Shannon in gilt to the spine and both boards. Spine and hinge edges of boards cloth is darkened but the gilt is still bright. Fore and bottom page edges are untrimmed.
