Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First edition of the author's scarce first book. Rebound. in red leather. Five raised bands. Gilt text block edges. Includes the poem 'The Faeries.' William Allingham (19 March 1824 – 18 November 1889) was an Irish poet, diarist and editor. He wrote several volumes of lyric verse, and his poem 'The Faeries' was included in many anthologies, but he is better known for his posthumously published Diary in which he records his lively encounters with Tennyson, Carlyle and other writers and artists. Shelf wear to edges, tips, and spine. Owner inscription on FFEP, otherwise clean interior. Binding is tight and square.
