About This Item
Charlottesville: University Press of Virginia, 1979. First Edition. Cloth and boards. Fine/Fine. 4to, black cloth over mauve boards, Mylar-protected red & black dust jacket with wood engraving of Edgar Allan Poe by Felix Vallotton, xxviii + 528 pages. This volume collects indispensible unpublished correspondence (1873-78) between poet Mrs. Sarah Helen Whitman to whom Poe was engaged in 1848, and John Henry Ingram, an important English admirer of EAP, who defended Poe against severe detraction and who also wrote a corrective biography of the author in 1880. Miller was Eminent Professor of English at Old Dominion University.
